THOMAS AND FRIENDS
Thomas and Friends is a British animated series for children, first broadcast on 9 October 1984 on the ITV channel.
It is based on a series of books by Reverend Wilbert Vere Awdry, titled The Railway Series.
The stories follow a group of trains and other anthropomorphised vehicles living on the Island of Sodor.
The books originated from stories Awdry told his son, Christopher, while he was ill with measles.
Many of the tales were inspired by real-life events and experiences from Awdry’s own life.
